xorg only displays 1280×1024 – the LCD can do 1440×1050 so everything looks a little blury.

How to fix:

  1. download 915resolution from
  2. compile & run: /usr/sbin/915resolution 32 1400 1050
  3. restart the X-Server: kill $(ps -ef | grep /usr/X11R6/bin/X | awk ‘{print $2}’)
  4. login and resize the Display through -> Preferences -> Screen Resolution to 1440×1050 and you can see clearer.

To make /usr/sbin/915resolution 32 1400 1050 run before the GDM, do the following (From [link]):


/usr/sbin/915resolution 32 1400 1050

in /etc/init.d/res-fix

Change permissions for execute:

chmod u+x /etc/init.d/res-fix

Link the program to all of your rc directories, before gdm starts:
