NS-2 Network AnimatorThis is just a little note to self about how to deal with problems related to installation of Network Simulator 2 on Fedora Core 5 but I’m sure it applies to other distros also.

Use the step by step manual offered at http://www.isi.edu/…. As you move along the steps, some problems may occur. Ways to come around the problems are collected under:

If you have problems installing Tcl or Tk, use yum instead:
yum install tcl-devel
yum install tk-devel

You’ll also need the X11 header files. Install them using the Add/Remove Software and install developement files for X Windows

If you install ns-allinone-2.29 on freebsd [or Fedora Core 5], there might be the following error message:

You can modify line 5458 in /otcl-1.11/configure from
system=MP-RAS-`awk ‘{print $3}’ /etc/.relid’`
system=MP-RAS-`awk ‘{print $3}’ /etc/.relid`
